CIRCA 19THC. ETHEREAL LAWN CHRISTENING GOWN W/SWALLOWS,DRAGONFLIES,BOWS.Such a beautiful fine christening gown! The lawn is so very fine, it has a ethereal quality to it that is quite a delight. This is a elegant gown and the quality of whitework embroidery is a testament to it's beauty.The top of the gown has fine Valencienne laces and pintucking and there are three frothy Valencienne lace ruffles around the sleeves. The main part of the gown has a very rare design, there are beautifully worked swallows , Dragonflies ,bows and florals in the design with deep scallops on the edge with Valencienne lace. One can always tell the best of gowns by the quality of linen or lawn and also the quality of the embroiderer.The swallows are so very beautiful! This and a few other gowns we are listing came from a wonderful collection of children's clothes. The lady had impeccable taste! One small opening otherwise in very good strong condition.
