CIRCA 1800's,SUPERB LAWN HANDKERCHIEF W/WHITEWORK,VALENCIENNE LACE.A beautiful fine lawn handkerchief with whitework embroidery and Valencienne lace.The design has a heraldic lion all around the edge of the lawn.The lion in heraldry symbolizes Courage,Royalty,Nobility and Valour and is known as "the King of Beasts" and is found in the Royal Coat of Arms of England, and in heraldry in France and other countries. Measuring approx.15" across. In very good strong condition, a tiny spot, a few small wear areas between lions.I consider this minor considering the elaborate amount of work. This probably happened due to storage. In good strong condition. A lovely item for the handkerchief collector.
