CIRCA 1780, SUPERB BORDER OF MECHLIN LACE. A wonderful offering from a excellent lace collection we purchased recently. This border was tacked on to a long silk to keep it preserved. The lace measures approx.65" by 3".The design flows, a lovely undulating vine with attractive florals and leaves and large poppies in the design. One can only imagine how many hours, days or weeks it took to create this lace. This flowing design was very prevent in the 17 and 18TH centuries. The lace has it's original cream patina and is in overall very very good condition.There are some scattered tiny openings in the lace..I consider absolutely minor in relation to the good strong condition of this lace.It is very rare to find such a long border with such a excellent design and level of workmanship.
