CIRCA 1700's, FINE BINCHE OR VALENCIENNE LACE. The design is quite ornate and the workmanship is excellent on this long narrow lace border.The lace is made of the finest flax thread ,something photographs never do justice to.Most early bobbin laces are made with gossamer flax thread and one only derives benefit form actually seeing this lace in person. Measuring approx.36" by little over 1/2". There are a few tiny openings and age spots but overall very good and strong. Lace was tacked on to silk to preserve but it is easy to remove and gently wash if desired. The design has undulating vines, florals and leaves.
