CIRCA 19THC. RARE FLEMISH "POTTEN KANT" LACE HANDKERCHIEF. A rare find!! This lace was part of a museum deaccession. The linen flax thread is very light and delicate in the hand. Potten Kant lace was first made in the 16THC. and later in the 18-19THC.. it is very rare to find a handkerchief like this ,not only is the design unusual but the lace workmanship is quite excellent. The ground has the cinq-trous or five point mesh , always of course a wonderful quality of the Flemish lace. The handkerchief itself is as light as a feather which is quite remarkable as the skill it took the lacemaker to create this wonderful handkerchief using such fine flax. Measuring approx.10 3/4". Never used and in wonderful condition. The lace has it's original gentle cream patina.
