CIRCA 1800's,EXQUISITE BRUSSELS POINT DE GAZE LACE WITH GARDEN TOOLS,FLORALS. This Brussels Point de Gaze lace has one of the most unusual designs I have ever seen. First, the workmanship is superb, I can say that the pictures do not do this piece justice. It is so much more beautiful. The design is so profuse and elaborate and has a lovely garden theme. There are architectural trellis designs, oval vignettes filled with a sheaf of wheat, a rake, trowel and a scythe. Throughout the lace there are floral garlands, gorgeous floral sprays, bows, lilies of the valley, tulips and other flowers. The lace being so grand and unusual and with such a high level of lacework would have only been done on a hand made ground. This ground has scattered Point De Esprit on the few empty areas of the lace. Measuring approx. 25" by 10" wide,63.5cm by 25.4cm .There is one join near one edge, otherwise in very good condition. The lace has it's original patina and seems unused or certainly rarely used.
