CIRCA 1710, EXQUISITE BINCHE LACE BORDER WITH OEIL DE PERDRIX. A stunning lace! This wonderful early border is made with the finest of threads. The gossamer thread is as light as a feather and it seems almost unbelievable that the lacemaker could create something so fine with this thread. The design is quite beautiful, with flowing movement in the scrollwork and in the floral designs that lie amidst the "oeil de perdrix' or 'partridge eyes'. This amazing piece seems as if it was never used and retains it's original cream patina. The lace came from a museum deaccession and in truth it probably should never have been deaccessioned as the laces were absolutely immaculate and perfect in every way.Measuring approx. 81" by almost 2 1/4 inches. The pictures tend to make the lace look heavier as opposed to how light and fine this border is. This is certainly a number 10 on the scale ..Perfect in every way.
