EXQUISITE 135" LACE BANQUET TABLECLOTH W/MONOGRAM, ELABORATE BIRDS,FLORALS,NAPKINS. A gorgeous tablecloth! This cloth is such a testament to the very best skill of lacemakers and to the lace designers during the early part of the 1900's. Elaborate cloths like this were usually commissioned for very wealthy patrons as the level of workmanship is superb in every way and a cloth like this would have had the very best designer and lacemakers and would have taken a long time to complete. Measuring apprx. 134-135" by 75-76" wide, 342.9cm by almost 190.5cm.There are two ornate large oval shields with beautifully scripted monograms on each end and a elaborate center with lovebirds on either side the center.Throughout the cloth there are meandering large florals, undulating vines and large lovely leaves surrounded by swags and bows. There are six large vignettes with assorted birds, lovebirds, a parrot, goose, peacock , eagle or swallow and a rooster. the birds have three dimensional work , the needle lace is quite amazing. There are 16 lapkins, eight with one design and eight with another similar design. They measure apprx. 26 by 12".This cloth was made for someone very special and it seems as if it was unused. In very good strong condition, perhaps a couple of openings but would be so minor.the cloth has it's original cream patina and certainly was never washed or used it seems. A really wonderful item for the serious collector of fine linens.Cloths like this are extremely rare, one will see no other matching one..in a sense a work of art for the connoisseur of lace and linen.
