CIRCA 1890-1900,EXQUISITE SILK FIGURAL CANTON EMBROIDERED SHAWL W/GARDENS,FLORALS. The design and amount of hand embroidery on this superb Canton silk shawl is quite extraordinary. Measuring apprx. 60-61" across with additional 25 inches for Macrame fringe, 154.94cm with additional 63.50cm for fringe. The shawl is almost entirely covered with the designs, there are over apprx. 80 figures, numerous architectural pagodas, building, boats , bridges,birds, butterflies, florals, landscapes and roses.The amount of workmanship is quite astonishing in very respect.The scenes show marketplaces, temples, various people enjoying the landscapes, flower sellers and other people in their boats. In very good condition, only one tiny pin dot,minor. This shawl was certainly made for someone very wealthy, it was cared for and almost seems unused. (Item #AS82)
