RARE AND BEAUTIFUL 19THC.BRUSSELS DUCHESSE SKIRT.The design and lace workmanship on this Brussels Duchesse skirt are truly remarkable! This skirt "sings" so to speak with a grand exuberant design that has elaborate scrollwork, gorgeous floral and leaf decorations and with a massive amount of undulating flowers,vines and leaves. I do not believe this was ever used, as the condition is so good.It certainly would have cost a fortune even to have it made during that era. I believe the designer must have been someone every important as one rarely comes across such a grand design. Measuring apprx. almost 36" around waist,44-45" long, 62" for train, and circumference is apprx 220 inches or more. This was probably made and never used, condition is very good, a few tiny brides near edge need reattaching, totally minor.The thread used on the skirt is very light, one can only be in awe of the designer and workmanship.
