CIRCA 1770,RARE OPEN ROBE SILK CHRISTENING GOWN W/QUILTED COVERLET,PILLOW

CIRCA 1770,RARE OPEN ROBE SILK CHRISTENING GOWN,COVERLET,PILLOW. I have to say, this is one of the most wonderful items I have come across in children's clothing.I really consider this offering to be well worthy of a museum collection. A wonderful luminous cream silk open robe and petticoat with trimmings of bobbin lace across the petticoat and also along the edge of the open robe. This offering comes with a small quilted satin coverlet with ruffled bobbin lace and a small lace trimmed pillow. There is a note attached"Aunt Connors christening dress,Born 6TH May 1770." There is also a lovely picture of the item that I have included which truly shows how beautiful and luminous this gown is. This item is so rare that I can only say, after years and years, I do not personally think I have seen another like this, so if I enthuse over it , it is simply because it deserves special praise not only for it's beauty, rarity but also for the fact that it has provenance. There is a quilted cover that was probably used for part of the baptism and a small pillow, both beautifully quilted with lace embellishment. This was kept in a important private collection and so is in very good condition, there is a tiny spot on the back of the sleeves and the quilt coverlet is missing its inner lining and the underside of the ruffle has darker discoloration.Overall all minor, the ensemble is in very good strong condition. There are some items that pass through my hands that I form a special attachment to, this offering is one of those items. It is truly wonderful, it is certainly worthy for a museum or of course for the serious collector of children's clothing. Please see pictures of quilt and cushion below, they are all included with this gown.(Item #ACC240)
