CIRCA 1890-1900 LUMINOUS RARE IMPERIAL YELLOW SILK EMBROIDERED CANTON SHAWL. A STUNNING and RARE hand embroidered Imperial yellow Canton silk shawl! I have sold many of these shawls but have never come across a golden yellow shawl like this. The design and workmanship are superb, the shawl is encrusted with large roses and birds,floral vines and shaded flowers and leaves, the embroidery is dense and yet extremely fine and of a high order.Measuring apprx. 60" with an additional 26" for the deep hand made Macrame fringe. This shawl has weight , a sign of the earlier and best of the Canton shawls. There are apprx. 45 birds or more with more than 75 roses , more than 50 butterflies and there are numerous intertwining vines and smaller flowers throughout the shawl. This shawl seems rarely used and probably been well cared for in storage, a few minor tiny spots near edge, minor. The shawl is in near mint condition, it seems unused.(Item #AS62)
